Important Info About Your Kanware Order and U.S. Duties
As of early May 2025, U.S. Customs has begun more strictly enforcing import duties on apparel — especially garments under specific HS codes. This change has impacted many small brands shipping from abroad, including us.
All Kanware pieces are proudly made and shipped from Thailand, and fall under HS codes that now carry estimated U.S. import duty rates. However, the U.S. government has announced a 90-day “cooling period” during which additional tariffs will not be imposed on imports from Thailand. This gives all of us a bit of breathing room — for now.
That said, here’s what you need to know:
We ship via Thailand Post, which hands off to USPS in the U.S.
If your order’s declared value is under $800, it may still qualify for duty-free entry under the U.S. de minimis rule.
However, apparel is now under increased scrutiny, and even lower-value shipments may be randomly flagged and assessed duties by U.S. Customs.
We totally understand that surprise fees can be frustrating, and we recognize that this might make you hesitant to order from us again. We want to assure you that we’re actively working on long-term solutions, including exploring prepaid duty shipping options, to avoid these issues for future orders.
If you have any questions or receive a customs notice, please don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here to help however we can.
Thank you so much for your understanding and for supporting slow, independent fashion.
Much love,
Kanware team x
